The King of the Instruments: In a conversation during a stroll with a friend in Augsburg, Austria, Mozart said “In my eyes and ears, the organ is the king of instruments.” If it was good enough for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, it should be good enough for the rest of us!

Three of Oregon’s celebrated organists will join us in recognizing the riches of organs that we have here at the mouth of the Columbia River. Barbara Baird, Andrew ElRay Stewart Cook, and Jeannine & David Jordan will each present a performance at a different location to share their skill and to share with us the beauty and the thrill of hearing this mighty instrument. The organs at Grace Episcopal Church in Astoria, St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Seaview WA, and Peace First Lutheran (Uppertown) will be featured.

The proceeds of this organ series will benefit one of the largest pipe organs in Astoria, the historic Estey 1429 pipe organ, housed at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts.

We will be joined on the stage at the Larsen Center by OrgelKids USA, who will help capture the imagination of our next generation of audience members and organists through building an organ together with the Astoria Conservatory and other school-age youth. We will also have tours of the pipes of the precious Estey 1429 organ with a short feature of the instrument.
